The researches of Stuttgart Machine Tool Institute have taken interest in operators safety aspect in machining centers. It is known that mostly PVC dug-out blanket is used to protect a man from small chips scattering. Nevertheless, expecting EC norms on woodworking machines safety stiffening demands supplemental cheks.
The dug-out blankets of different materials experiments became a part of this research project. In the course of experiments one of the stripes of a dug-out blanket was shooting with special bullets. If a stripe deviated from a dug-out blanket flat and a declivity angle was wider than tolerance, testing wasn’t successful. To meet new norms a dug-out blanket must be successfully tested five times. Permissible length, width and gage of the stripes, amount of layers and its lapping level, materials properties were examined.
The conclusion of limited PVC dug-out blankets serviceability in restrained terms was one of the research results. Also reinforced dug-out blankets were worked out during this research which turned to be safer and more serviceable.
Inspired with the first results, specialists keep on researching with the framework of the project.
